Syllowidget Assignment
Framing arguments as obligations
60 points
Compose a syllogism, a 3-part argument , using a claim, a warrant, and a conclusion.
(claim)
Military recruiters for the Department of Defense should be required by law to disclose to new recruits the risks of military service, including the risks of Traumatic Brain Injury, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Sexual Assault, and increased susceptibility to suicide, rather than relying outdated propaganda techniques that romanticize military service.
(Warrant, using DOD mission statement)
It is the responsibility of the Department of Defense to “deter war and protect the security” of the United States, including protecting the security of young people who may not be experienced in making decisions in their own best interest. It is also in the best interest of the Department of Defense to maintain the trust and support of the American people, which is key to national security
(Conclusion that links claim & warrant)
Therefore, if military recruiters are required by law to disclose to new recruits the risks of military service, they will be protecting American citizens and maintaining the trust and support of the American people.
